About Fort Hood Neighborhoods

Weaver Texas publishes Fort Hood Neighborhoods as an independent information resource for military moves to Fort Hood and the Killeen area. The pages are an information resource. They are not a real estate service, a lending service, or a legal service.

The name on the installation

The post in these pages is Fort Hood, Texas. From 2023 through 2025 it was Fort Cavazos. It was renamed Fort Hood on June 11, 2025. The redesignation ceremony was July 28, 2025. The namesake is Col. Robert B. Hood. A housing listing, a school portal, or a GPS label saved in those Cavazos years can still carry the old name. The gate hours and the town drives use Fort Hood.

Four towns, one gate

Killeen, Harker Heights, Belton, and Temple are in Bell County. Their mornings are measured to Bernie Beck Main Gate, which is open 24/7, beside the Marvin Leath Visitors Welcome Center. Killeen is the short drive and the lowest appraisal mean. Harker Heights is the short I-14 drive and the highest mean. Belton brings its own school district. Temple brings four. A map pin that says Clear Creek is a different gate from Bernie Beck.
